In celebration of Jen Lemen's Birthday

A couple of weeks ago, I received an e-mail from the husband of my good friend, Jen Lemen.  He had asked several of Jen's friends, all of whom live rather from from the Lemens' home, to create video birthday wishes for Jen, in celebration of her 40th birthday.

Of course, I happily obliged, creating a digital story from images I had taken while on vacation with Jen and 11 other kindred spirits in Oregon earlier this year.  I compiled the images into a slideshow, added Afro-Cuban music (Jen feels a kinship to all things African), wrote my wishes for Jen's birthday and added the voiceover.

This is the result.  It shows, I think, how digital stories can be used in celebration of a friend, in contrast to using the media for the purpose of publicity.

Enjoy.

Houston Wellness Symposium Digital Story goes live

The new digital story for the Houston Wellness Association, an organization developed by the Mayor of Houston's Wellness Council, went live today.  I put the story together using a pre-approved script, my photography (supplemented by stock photography), and did the associated voiceover.  The story is launched in advance of the Houston Wellness Symposium, a two-day event on November 13 - 14, 2008, at Minute Maid Park/Union Station.

Check out the story here.  And for more information (and to register for the symposium) click here.

The new Chookooloonks website launches!

I'm so pleased to announce the launching of my brand new website, Chookooloonks.com!  The beautiful site you see here is all due to the amazing design stylings of the incredibly talented Krystyn Heide, to whom I'm eternally grateful.  Here, you'll find all the news of all the work I'll be doing -- from articles, to photography assignments, to digital storytelling (which you'll learn more about very, very soon).

Thanks to all of you who have stuck with me via the blog over the years -- of course, the blog continues, so I hope you'll continue to hang out.   And obviously, if there are any writing assignments, photography opportunities or digital stories you'd like to tell, please don't hesitate to contact me.
